Tuesday night at McClure field in Statesville, The Statesville Christian Lions defeated the Davidson Day Patriots in a non conference contest between former conference foes 9-7.
Josh Frye took the hill for the Lions and was greeted rudely by the top half of the Patriot offense in the first inning as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead. After that Frye handled the Davidson Day lineup through 6 total innings, striking out 7 and walking 3. Frye helped his own cause by going 2-4 at the plate and knocking in 2 runs scoring one himself.
The Lions offense went to work scoring 4 in the third inning. Charlie Jacobs drove in BJ Lomax then DaDa Sheperd knocked in two with a triple before scoring on a single by Ben Oliver to knot the score at 4-4.
SC Centerfielder Anthony Ferguson broke the tie with a single up the middle with the bases loaded in the 5th and the Lions never trailed after that adding another crooked number in the 6th.
Brian Godwin stepped to the plate with 2 outs and got his second hit of the game to raise his season average to .331. After Godwin stole second and third Casey Zarbynickey drove him home followed by Sheperd and Frye doing likewise to seal the victory for Statesviile Christian (10-1, 6-0 in conference).
The Lions hit the road to face Southlake Christian at Moore Park Friday at 4:00.
