Freshman Christian Bailey can play all five spots on the floor and all five were on display in Statesville Christian’s (13-4) rout of eastern NC Community Christian (7-3) 73-36 here at the Kester Athletic Center on Friday afternoon.
Christian scored 29 points on 4/5 shooting from the arc while pulling down 14 rebounds. He added 4 assists, 3 steals and blocked 8 shots to complete the impressive line score.
Christian did his damage all over the floor. He can run the offense from the point or lead the fast break. He can rebound the ball and go coast to coast with Lebron type strength and explosiveness. He can shoot the three ball, hit the mid range jumper or score off the low block or out of the short corner.
Of note was Christian had 7 block shots in the Pine Lake Prep Championship game the night before to record 15 blocked shots in 24 hour period.
On defense Christian can guard the quickest man on the perimeter or battle the low post and protect the rim. Community got a little of each and had no answer as the Lions picked up a key win in 1A NCISAA basketball.
“Christian Bailey is about as special as kids get. Coaches love getting a player who is smart or coachable or highly skilled or who has size and athleticism or has a motor. You’re lucky if you get a high school kid that has two of those traits. A lot of kids might have one or none. Christian has all of them. That’s about as rare as it gets. It’s hard to put a ceiling on a guy like that.” Head Coach JD Johnson
Christian was not alone and the balance was evident in the rest of the team’s box score as four other teammates hit double figures scoring 11 each.
Jordan McCray added 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals to his 11 points.
Brennan Settle came in with 9 boards and 3 steals with his 11 points while Hazien Campbell added 3 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal to his 11 points.
Logan Mosley rounded out the double digit scorers with his 11 adding 2 rebounds and 2 assists.
The Lions start a tough stretch of basketball traveling to Hickory Christian on Friday January 6 to take on the Knights in SPAA action.
