Brennan Settle has scored 33, 25, and 25 points in three games this past week trying to carry the burden for the hobbled Lion’s basketball team. But despite his best efforts SCS has dropped 2 this weekend after soundly beating University Christian on Wednesday evening.

Eight players scored for the Lions led by Settle’s 33 and Hazier Campbell’s 17 with Jordan McCray, Logan Mosley and Josh Frye all following with 8 as the Lions dismantled the Barracudas from University on Wednesday night.  However, the Lions without Christian Bailey, had to come back on Friday to face a determined squad from Gaston Christian.  In what the Charlotte Observer called the upset of the season Gaston Christian clipped the Lions 53-50 despite Brennan Settle’s 25 points.

Having to play Carmel Christian, the league’s best team and odds on favorite to win the 2A title this season, without Christian Bailey and with a hobbled Jordan McCrae after playing 3 games in 4 nights was too much for the Lions.  Coach Johnson, however, decided not to sit in a zone and hold the ball to but to let his entire team go toe to toe with the 2A power.  The first quarter was all Carmel as they jumped to a 23-5 lead but the Lions refused to quit and playing the entire bench battled for the last three quarters.

The Lions are hoping to get healthy this week but will have 2 more tough opponent as they face long time state powers Victory Christian and Northside Christian.

If the SCS Lions can get healthy they are still on pace to break the school record for wins in a regular season and make the NCISAA playoffs for the first time in over a decade.
